Wimdu vs Airbnb
Wimdu vs Airbnb - what's the difference between these two sites? Both sites offer private vacation rentals, often cheaper than hotels and motels in the same area. Both services are free to use for travelers and hosts. I've used both services and here is my experience.

Wimdu vs Airbnb - number of bookings:
I'm renting out two apartments full time, meaning I'm fully booked in average 27 days a month. During 2015 I received in total 650 bookings, 40% from Airbnb, 20% from Wimdu, 20% from Flipkey by Tripadvisor and 20% from other sites such as Roomorama, Homestay and Rentalo.
Geographical area and type of guests
While Airbnb has it's base in the US and main offices in many countries, Wimdu has it's base in Germany, Europe. Wimdu guests are also mostly from Central and Southern European countries such as Germany, Austria, Italy and France.
Wimdu vs Airbnb - customer service
While you can reach Airbnb 24/7 by phone or chat, I find it a little alarming that all you can find on the Wimdu webpage is a form and every time I have contacted the Wimdu customer service they have not gotten back to me until a day after.
Further differences between Airbnb and Wimdu:
- For hosts, Airbnb has a host protection insurance, Wimdu has not
- Wimdu claims to be 50% cheaper than hotels in the same area
